Built for Constrained Sites
Mundo Power's compact vertical-axis wind turbine systems are intended for deployment in constrained industrial and urban environments where large horizontal-axis turbines and ground mount solar are not practical.
Our system is designed as a wind-led hybrid configuration, with optional solar PV, battery storage, and grid interconnection supporting the primary wind generation to enable continuous operations and reduce reliance on diesel generation or local power grids.
System Highlights
- Compact VAWT arrays for industrial and urban sites.
- Wind-led hybrid with optional solar, storage, and grid tie.
- Dense deployment for higher energy density per acre.
Land Use and Spatial Efficiency
Publicly available data from sources such as the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory indicates typical land use ranges for utility-scale generation.
Wind land use
30-85 acres per MW
Depending on turbine spacing and site conditions.
Solar PV land use
5-9 acres per MW
Depending on layout and technology.
Proximity Power density
~1.25 MW per acre
Subject to site layout, wind regime, and spacing constraints.
Scalable systems
Sized to need
Validated through site-specific modeling during feasibility.
Mundo Proximity Power is designed for higher energy density in constrained sites through dense multiple-turbine deployment.
Turbine Architecture and Operation
The Mundo Power 6.25 kW turbine is a compact commercial vertical-axis unit with a patented Savonius-Darrieus (drag/lift) blade geometry that maximizes wind energy capture. By accepting wind from any direction and wind gusts, VAWTs can be installed in close proximity to each other.
- No gearbox or drive shaft.
- Low rotational speed and vibration.
- Long-life bearings with a 20-year design target.
- Quiet operation, typically less than 65 dB at 15 ft.
- Omnidirectional wind acceptance with no yaw mechanism required.
The Mundo turbine is fully TUV certified and has accumulated more than 25,000 operating hours across deployments with zero impact on wildlife (bird or bat strikes).
Installation and Relocation
The system is mounted on lightweight monopole structures using screw-pile or minimal concrete foundations.
- Rapid installation.
- Reduced civil works.
- Lower decommissioning complexity.
- Relocation if site requirements change or leases expire.
The ground level houses electronics and power storage, and each level includes a mezzanine catwalk for safe access and inspection.
Electrical and Hybrid Integration
The 6.25 kW turbine is rated at 6,250 W at 25.6 mph and begins generating at approximately 6.7 mph.
- Battery-based microgrids.
- Hybrid wind-solar systems.
- Grid-tied operation with storage.
These configurations enable 24/7 power architectures that prioritize renewable generation while maintaining operational continuity.
